CBSE has revamped its evaluation system in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The changes are particularly noticeable in the Class 11 and 12 board exams, with a focus on more aptitude-based questions and less traditional questions.

The new guidelines dictate that the weightage of MCQs/case-based questions, source-based integrated questions or similar aptitude-focused questions has been increased from 40% to 50% for Class 11 and 12. In contrast, the proportion of response questions (short and long answer type questions) has been reduced from 40% to 30% for the academic session 2024-25. Selected response type questions (MCQs) remain at 20%.

However, the question paper structure for year-end and board examinations (theory) for classes 9 and 10 will remain unchanged for the upcoming academic session (2024-25).

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, CBSE said, "Our objective is to promote an educational environment that moves away from rote learning and nurtures creative, critical and systems thinking abilities among students, equipping them with the demands of the 21st century." Align with."

In other educational news, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the release schedule of new textbooks in line with NCF-SE 2023. Textbooks for Class 3 will be available by April 2024, followed by mid-May for Class 6. 2024. Additionally, 12.1 million copies of the 2023-2024 editions are already in circulation for various classes, with more being distributed regularly.

Buffer stock has also been prepared for classes 4, 5, 9 and 11. NCERT emphasized that digital copies of all their textbooks are available for free on platforms like NCERT portal, Diksha and ePathshala portals and apps.
